Green Tomatoes

Green Tomatoes

Today I picked off all the green tomatoes and brought them inside. I don’t think they will ripen outside so I’m going to see if they’ll ripen in the house.

I found a few ideas here - Ripening Green Tomatoes. I think I need to seperate them into different containers as at the moment they are all piled on top of one another. Then I’ll probably put them in the airing cupboard and keep checking on them every day.

I’m not convinced they’ll ripen but I’ll give them a couple of weeks and see how they go.

Talk to you later,

Susan.

Sunflower

This Sunflower is trying so hard to open but somehow I think this is about as far as it will get.

I was really disappointed with my Sunflowers this year, the biggest one only grew to about four feet high. Last year they were towering over my head and there were lots of them too.

Never mind, there’s always next year.

A Hungry Little Squirrel

Filed under: back garden, garden, squirrel — Tags: , — susyranner @ 19:37

A regular visitor to my back garden recently has been a squirrel.

He comes running along the fence, jumps down onto the bird table and helps himself to whatever’s on there. Then he jumps down and goes and investigates the feeder tree and the rest of the garden.

I know some people don’t like squirrels but I love to watch him scampering about looking for food.

Red And Green Tomatoes

Filed under: back garden, garden, hanging baskets, Tomatoes — susyranner @ 19:23

My tomatoes are slowly ripening and turning red. I really didn’t think they would as I sowed the seeds a bit late. I think all the ones in the hanging basket will ripen but the ones in the tub aren’t even starting to change colour yet, they are all green.

Can you eat green tomatoes or do you have to wait until they’re red?

Next year I’ll start them off  about a month earlier than I did this year so hopefully it won’t take as long before I can eat them!

Feverfew

Feverfew in the back garden today:

It’s been a bit too windy to photograph anything the last few days but I managed to take these shots today during a lull.

The leaves are coming down thick and fast now, I’ve already had the leaf vac out twice this week. I need to keep on top of them or the front garden would covered with them. That’s the disadvantage of living in a tree lined street I suppose.

Talk to you later,

Susan.
